A year ago September 7th 2017, I created a page called Wobble. It was an attempt on my part to provide an alternative possible explanation for the energy source driving Sputnik Planitia's (SP) geology and the geology in general around all of Tombaugh Regio.
The month I created my Wobble page, it barely made it onto my top ten most visited page list. The traffic drove it to number 9 but it has never been on the list since. That is until this month, a year later, where it rose to take third place which it didn't even do when I first created it. |
When I met Alan Stern at his book signing in Washington DC, I briefly presented this SP geological energy source produced via 24 degree wobble idea to him. There were people in line behind me so neither of us really had time to elaborate our thoughts.
While he acknowledged it as a possibility he did seem to feel that 1.4 million years is a long time for enough energy to be released to produce this geological effect at Sputnik Planitia. I've read enough of his papers to know he favors the radiogenically hot core concept over the one I've suggested on my wobble page. |
Like I said, these scientists are much smarter than me, that fact alone doesn't mean they are right and I'm wrong, it is simply a factor that must be taken into account.
I'm one blind squirrel looking for a nut, they are many smart squirrels with lots of nuts. Another factor that must be taken into account, they have an agenda, I don't. It was predetermined what would be found when we got to Pluto and this agenda of theirs is being forced onto the scene. Case in point, using only 3 impacts as supportive evidence to age date the small satellites at 4 byr when it is known by scientists that this method has an error factor greater than 2 byr shows how far they will stretch reality to sell their agenda. Even if this method was 90% accurate, using 3 impacts as evidence for age dating the small satellites to 4 byr is crazy. Its a discredit to science. If nothing else comes of it, I hope my expressed opinions on this web site have challenged them to consider the strengths and weaknesses of their concepts. Back in July of 2015 around the same time New Horizon's flew past Pluto, Hector Javier Durand-Manterola produced a very interesting paper indeed. |

Hector used the values from the below table for his calculations.
He used the below formula to determine relative tidal flex forces applied to Pluto and Charon while at perihelion and aphelion in a conjunctive vs non-conjunctive orientation with the Sun. |

Hector's math implies Pluto experiences a 5% tidal force difference when Pluto/Charon are in conjunction with the Sun at perihelion as opposed to when they are aligned perpendicularly relative to the Sun. |
